KOLKATA 28 DEC : Trinamool Congress government led by Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal promote and transfer many IPS officers on Monday , including, the concerned officers who were summoned by the Modi government on central deputation two weeks ago.
After, BJP Chief JP Nadda’s car during a rally was attacked in Diamond Harbour earlier this month. At least 20 officers were transferred, while 13 officers did get promoted. In fact, Rajeev Mishra, the Inspector General, South Bengal, has been promoted as the ADG, South Bengal. Also, Bholanath Pandey, the Diamond Harbour SP, now is transferred as the SP, Home Guard. It is known to be a less significant post. In addition, the two concerned IPS officers were in fact, responsible for Nadda’s security when his convoy was attacked on December 10.
Meanwhile, the position of another IPS officer, Praveen Kumar Tripathi, DIG (one of the three IPS officers responsible for Nadda’s security), though, did remain at the same position. In particular, these three IPS officers did find themselves caught up in a controversial situation between Centre-state crossfires after the attack on Nadda’s convoy.
It may be mentioned that MHA issued an order asking the state to send the three officers on central deputation, but Banerjee refused it and did not want to release them. Also, she did call the order a part of ‘political vendetta’. The matter has been taken to Supreme Court.
