As panic grips Bahalnagar, Murshidabad families of deceased demand CBI probe

Bahalnagar (Murshidabad) 31 October: The families of the five workers, who were killed by the terrorists at Kulgram in Kashmir, demanded a CBI probe nto the death of their kins.

The five workers who died are Kamru-ud-Din, Mursleen Sheikh, Rafiq ul Sheikh, Rafiq Sheikh and Nayeem-ud-Din Sheikh. They were all residents of Bahalnagar village of Sagardighi in Murshidabad.

The Kashmir Police said that the terrorists abducted the labourers who had gone to Kulgram for working at apple orchard.

Saira Bibi, wife of deceased Musalem Sheikh, said: “The news of my husband’s death shocked all of us. If Union government has taken control of Jammu and Kashmir then we demand a CBI enquiry into the death of our near ones. They have been brutally killed.”

Around 300 labourers from the village went outside West Bengal for work. The village is located 20 kilometres inside Sagardhi and poor minorities make up majority of the population in this village. The villagers working outside are masons.”

The news of the killings of the workers has terrified the villagers. They have called on the other workers and asked them to return immediately.

The incident has created panic among the residents of Sagardighi who feel that unless Union government provides adequate security to the people who are going to work in Kashmir after abrogation of Article 370, it will be difficult to work in the region.

Bibi further said that after the abrogation of Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured that there will be adequate security and phone connections will be restored. “But it is far being true. Had there been adequate security then terrorists could not have abducted and killed the five workers. We are nervous and we feel that PM’s words are baseless,” added Bibi.

Another resident of Sagardighi, Saina Banu whose brother went to Kulgram in Kashmir to work as a labourer, said: “We are frightened after this incident and I have urged my brother to come back immediately.My father is paralysed and my mother is a house wife. My brother is the sole bread earner of the family.”

Residents of the locality said that soon after the incident came to light, party leaders from the TMC , Congress and Left Front came to meet the bereaved families.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the incident and announced 5 lakh compensation for the deceased . The state government has also assured jobs to one of the victim’s family members after looking at the eligibility criteria. West Bengal government is in touch with the Indian Railways and urged them to bring back 80 workers from Bengal who have went to Kashmir for work. The state government will also look after their eligibility criteria and will look for options so that they can work in Bengal. The state government will also bear the treatment cost of one of the victim’s daughter who is suffering from kidney ailments.

What happened on Tuesday at Kulgram, Kashmir.

On Tuesday, five labourers from Murshidabad were shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident happened around 7,30 p.m in Kulgram’s Katrussu area. According to police, a group of terrorists barged into the rented accommodation of the workers and fired at them indiscriminately.
