Assured of thumping victory, Modi sets foot towards St Petersburg International Economic Forum

New Delhi: With exit poll predicting that BJP will retain its throne, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit St Petersburg in Russia to attend the St Petersburg International Economic Forum(SPIEF) 2019 from 6-8 June 2019.

Sources in PMO Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed that Modi’s visit were scheduled before the Lok Sabha election dates were announced and the plan remains unchanged. Details of the visit is yet to be declared publicly.

SPIEF 2019 is going to host 120 business events . This year, representatives of the government and public bodies, and business community leaders are expected to take part in the SPIEF 2019 program. The key theme will be economic development and strengthening of multilateral cooperation between countries, as well as the role of Russia in the global processes.

In 2017, PM Narendra Modi went to St Petersburg to attend the 18 India –Russia Annual Summit from 31 May to 2 June. The two countries signed an agreement to set up two more nuclear power plants in Tamil Nadu. Both the leaders spoke on issues of terrorism, increasing trade and investment.

Sources in the BJP said that all the official programs of the Union government will be held as per schedule. Over last few weeks , External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj convened several meeting with officials who briefed her about the status of different projects. She also assured that the ongoing works will be completed once the new government comes to power.

Amit Malviya the BJP spokesperson, said: ” There has been no change in any of our scheduled programs . NDA is coming with absolute majority and will continue to fulfill the promises in the next five years.”

It may be mentioned that External Affairs Minister , has already visited Bishkek on May 21 and May 22 to attend the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO). Mrs Swaraj had convened meeting with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Aidarbekov on all aspects of bilateral relations, including political & defence, trade & investment, health, capacity building and people-to-people ties.
