Fearing safety of life, Citizens leave home at Nyajat in Basirhat

Kolkata : After mayhem, it is exodus. The brutal killing of two BJP workers and two TMC worker at Nyajat in Sandeshkhali of North 24 Parganas, under Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, West Bengal, have witnessed scores of people leaving their villages for safety.

The BJP alleged that three of the party cadres have been missing since Saturday, when the incident occurred.

According to latest police reports, 40 families have left the village. Kokhon Das , a relative of missing BJP cadre Deb Das Mondal, vouched for the exodus . “We have lost faith in the police in Bengal. We have lodged a complaint with the police, but they are yet to take any action. We are unaware whether Mondal died or is alive. We want police to give us a clue.”

Samod Mollah , a Trinamool Congress, worker said: “ We have seen many villagers leaving their residence. We have also seen that before Saturday, three BJP MLAs visited the Sandeshkhali and spoke with the BJP workers. We want to know what prompted this violence?”

According to reports received from the administration, several schools remained closed on Monday and most of the doctors did not also turn up to the primary healthcare centers.

Shampa Bhishoyi, a resident of Bhangipara in Sandeshkhali, said: ”As the situation remains tensed, we have not sent our wards to school. Teachers also did not came to school.”

Internet services were suspended till Monday night.”

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Monday, comparing herself to a wounded tigress, alleged that it was a conspiracy to destabilise her government. It was also a conspiracy to destabilise the communal harmony of the state.BJP defaming Bengal nationally and using social media to spread misinformation and fake news.”

According to Banerjee, BJP has failed to provide the name and details of the persons who were missing in the clash.

On the other hand Mukul Roy BJP leader said “ We have made a list of the leaders who have been missing following the clash. Around three of our party cadres have been missing since Saturday. I challenge Banerjee that if I could provide the details of the party cadres who were missing, will she leave her post as chief minister . I am apprehending that the accused BJP worker went to Bangladesh and hide themselves.”

Meanwhile, Governor Kesharinath Tripathy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah at New Delhi on Monday.

When asked about the possibility of imposing President’s rule in West Bengal , the Governor said” We have submitted a report to the Union government regarding the present law and order situation in Bengal . They have assured us that they will look into the matter.”

How the trouble started

Trouble started on Saturday between BJP and TMC supporters at Hatgachhi under Nyajat in Sandeshkhali over removing of party flags. While BJP claimed that two of its workers were killed and three BJP workers were missing , TMC claimed that one of its workers have been killed. A huge contingent of police was posted at Bhangipara village, which is under the Nyajat Police Station , where the clashes took place on Saturday evening during a TMC rally. BJP has also called a bandh at Basirhat in North 24 Pargana on Wednesday in protest against the atrocities perpetrated by the TMC on BJP workers.

The BJP tried to take the bodies of two of its supporters to Kolkata from Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district, but the party leaders were stopped mid way by the police leading to heated exchange of words. Later they were allowed by the police to take the bodies to Kolkata.

On Sunday Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) has issued an advisory, instructing the state government to take appropriate steps as post poll violence continues to remain unabated. The advisory mentions that “The unabated violence over the past weeks appears to be a failure on the part of the law enforcement machinery of the state to maintain the rule of law and inspire confidence among people.” The Chief Secretary of West Bengal has already replied to the advisory that has been sent by MHA and mentioned that state government is taking firm actions against the anti-socials who were responsible for creating the trouble.
