TMC workers siphoned off ₹ 8.5 lakh from WB govt fund, no action since 2017, alleges former IPS

Kolkata : Chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s diktat to her party-men to return cut money is seen somewhat a recognition of the plethora of allegations made  by the Opposition that the Trinamool Congress  has been mired in heaps of corruption.

Claiming that Rs 8.5 lakh government fund was siphoned off by 17 TMC workers,   former IPS Nazrul Islam had lodged an FIR with the Domkal police in 2017. The money was meant for Samarthan scheme of West Bengal, which the state launched in 2017 to provide financial assistance to workers who migrated here or lost job due to demonetisation. The state had allocated Rs 300 crore for the cause.

Here is the copy of the FIR.

The letter, sent to the officer in-charge of Domkal police station and SP of Murshidabad, comprised the names of the 17 TMC workers – along with their account numbers – and the amount they allegedly siphoned.

A copy of the FIR, which  is with Mediabuzznews.com, revealed that the complaint was lodged on May 3, 2017, and a copy of the FIR submitted to SP of Murshidabad  is dated May 5, 2017.

Islam said, ”After getting full details of the Trinamool Congress workers engaged in siphoning funds, I lodged an FIR with the Domkal Police station. However, no action has been taken against the accused . The accused are roaming free and have harassed.”

According to Islam, extortion by TMC people from general public and accepting bribe for providing government benefits has become regular. I have received several complaints regarding the matter. As a result, I investigated the matter and got account details of the TMC workers who siphoned off the fund.

Islam, who retired as ADG and had grudge against chief minister Mamata Banerjee for not giving promotion as DG, also floated a political party known as Mulnibasi party from Domkal, Murshidabad .

The party was floated to cater to the needs of the SC/ST /OBC and the other minorities.

Interestingly, Islam had written many books where he openly criticised CM Banerjee for running the administration ‘dishonestly’.
