Inside factionalism in BJP: Rift grows wider, showcase notice sent to two top leaders

KOLKATA 23 DEC: Fierce factionalism has reared its ugly head once again, in the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party, now. Precisely, between the two distinct groups emerging in the party. Mainly, one group comprises of those coming from TMC in the recent past. While the other group comprises of the old-timers in the party.

BJP   on Wednesday  send a show-cause notice to the two prominent BJP leaders. In particular, Sayantan Bose, the general secretary of BJP and Agnimitra Paul, the president of Mohila Morcha for anti-party comments. The comments were made against probable induction of TMC MLA Jitendra Tiwari into BJP.

According to sources, the state BJP said although there was a feud inside the BJP over grabbing the most power, but in the recent past with more TMC leaders joining the BJP, paving way for an increased factional fight.

After Suvendu Adhikari joined BJP, it did lead to a series of clashes between the old BJP leaders and the new ones. Mostly, in various South Bengal districts.

A senior BJP leader, on the condition of anonymity, said, “The feud between the old and new members did increase only after a section of party members did learn about a revealing fact. Precisely, that some leaders who did just join BJP, may get a senior post. This has led to a heightened internal feud.”

In fact, a day after Adhikari joined BJP, a section of the old BJP workers did tear Adhikari’s posters at Kanthi in East Midnapore.

Moreover, protests broke out among leaders in Bishnupur (Bankura district). Mainly, against the induction of former TMC minister and municipal chairman Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. At different places in Alipurduar against the induction of former TMC MP Dasharath Tirkey. Also, in Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri district against the induction of TMC’s sitting-MLA Sukra Munda.

Even in Alipurduar, BJP workers even did burn an effigy of Tirkey. Also, at another place, a garland of shoes was put in his photograph.

Last week, posters and banners did emerge at Gaighata in North 24-Parganas districts. Especially, where two controversial and influential TMC leaders did quit the party, recently. Mostly, they are expected to join forces with the saffron party. So, the posters, put up in the name of ‘original BJP workers’, accused the party of inducting corrupt leaders with bad reputations.

Sujata Kha Mondal: BJP gives more importance to corrupt leaders from TMC

Meanwhile, Sujata Kha Mondal did quit BJP and joined TMC. Also, Mondal did claim that the saffron party has given more importance to the corrupt leaders who did come from TMC rather than the leaders who fought for the party.

On the day, when Sujata Kha Mondal joined TMC from BJP, the old BJP workers and the new BJP workers did get entangled in a scuffle in Durgapur of West Burdwan. Just before the party president Dilip Ghosh was about to induct new members to the party at a Jogdaan Mela (joining festival).

In fact, Sujata’s husband Saumitra Kha did send her divorce papers. Only, for joining the TMC and lashing out at BJP for enticing TMC leaders. Mainly targeting, the ones who are joining hands with the BJP with prominent posts.

“Those who shed their sweat and blood for the party in its tough time are not being rewarded. While the opportunist fence-sitters from the TMC are being enticed with prime positions, including chief ministership and deputy chief ministership. There are six chief ministerial candidates already. And 13 deputy chief ministers,” she said while addressing the media at the TMC state unit headquarters.
