After the BJP trying to make their presence stronger in the well-known sporting clubs they have now decided to bolster their contacts amongst the state government employees’ association.

Over the last 20 days, around 50 people from the TMC-backed of the state government employees federation joined the BJP-backed state government employees federation.

A senior BJP leader, on condition of anonymity, said: “Almost 50 people have joined the BJP-backed state government federation in the last 20 days, and we are getting requests from another 70. We are screening many people before taking them in our federation.”

On Friday, the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) has instructed the West Bengal government to give the pending dearness allowance (DA) to the West Bengal government employees at par with the Central government employees. The West Bengal State Government Employees Federation had approached SAT in 2017 . The order mentions that the state government had to pay the pending DA within a year. The SAT also instructed that the pending arrears can be cleared by giving the amount or adjusting with the employees PF.

Sanket Chakraborty, the general secretary of West Bengal steering committee and member of West Bengal Karmachari Federation, said: ”As the state government employees are debarred from getting their basic rights, a section of employees have already enrolled their names in the BJP backed state government employees federation. A majority of the employees are desperate to enrol their names in BJP, but they could not enrol themselves to BJP now as they are still working under West Bengal government fearing that they might be transferred to other places. We welcome the decision of the SAT and we feel that the state government should immediately intervene and resolve the issue. It was a much-needed relief to the state government employees.”

According to Chakraborty, the employees’ federation will go till the Supreme Court, if the state government appeals to a higher court . We have received reports that the state government employees have been threatened by members of the TMC backed state employees federation that if they join the BJP, they would be transferred to different places. As a result, they have not been able to join in huge numbers in the BJP-backed employees’ federation.
